W40 Range

Introduction
A modern and versatile commercial standard steel window section offering the largest available front-to-back dimension of 40mm.  This allows more versatility of design due to its greater strength over the other steel sections, whilst maintaining the slim profiles for which steel windows are renowned.  With its thicker steel walls - unsupported multi-floor spanning screens are allowable.  Available in high performance double glazed format (26mm units), this section is ideal for both curtain walling or single windows.  The system is designed made-to-measure and offers equal or extended leg perimeter sections to suit all applications.  A large range of quality ironmongery can be fitted and the system includes many opening window types which are detailed in the below table.  This range is suitable for 1/2 hour integrity fire rating when used in conjunction with special profiled steel beads and 20mm sealed units (contact our technical department if fire rated windows are required).  This section has been designed to be an enhancement of the well established W20 section, but offering 26mm glazing to meet the thermal requirements of the latest Building Regulations and providing advanced draining and ventilation of the glazing system. As it has evolved from the W20 range - it is an ideal replacement for them and also as a product suitable for modern new builds.

Specification  Windows and doors will be manufactured from the W40 range of purpose-made hot-rolled mild steel section and generally manufactured in accordance with procedures laid down in BS.6510:1984. All frames will have welded corners and be flat and square and within normal manufacturing dimensional tolerances of +/- 2mm. Intermediate glazing bars will be hot tenon riveted.

Galvanizing
All windows and doors, including any steel attachments, coupling members or ancillary items, will be hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS.729:1971 (1986), with a minimum coating weight of 460gsm.

Polyester Powder Coating (optional)
Galvanised windows and doors will be polyester powder coated using Syntha-Pulvin powder. The powder will be in accordance with BS.6497:1984, to an average thickness of at least 60 microns on all significant surfaces.  Colour of polyester powder coated elements will be : any single standard BS/RAL reference colour.

W
eatherstripping
Ventilators will be weatherstripped with Black coloured polymer rubber gaskets within  profile and secured with suitable adhesive.

Bead Glazing
Glazing secured via external or internal profiled extruded aluminium beads which locate into frame carrier sections.  Glazed with specially designed gaskets on both sides, or gaskets on bead side and tape/silicone cap on glazing leg side with low modulus silicone sealant to a colour sympathetic to frame colour.  Alternatively,    Silicone can be colour matched to frames for an additional charge.  All glazing fully drained and ventilated.  All beads finished as window frames (mill finished aluminium beads used on galvanised finished frames).

Glass
All glass will be hermetically sealed double glazing units of 26mm thickness.  Units generally comprise inner and/or outer pane of 4mm or 6mm.  An almost limitless combination of toughened / laminated / obscured / special / hard coat low "E" / soft coat low "E"  inside / outside panes can be utilised.

Heat Loss
W40 range double glazed windows and doors have a typical "u" value of 2.1 W/m2K with soft low "E" coated argon gas filled double glazing units.   The W40 range therefore meets the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations 1st April 2002 in respect of the Conservation of Fuel and Power
.
