 Introduction
A truly
versatile commercial standard steel window section offering a larger
front-to-back 32mm dimension than the 25mm EB14 and SMW range and with
thicker steel walls to provide extra strength to allow unsupported
multi-floor spanning screens. Available in single or double glazed
format (14mm units), this section is ideal for both curtain walling or
single windows. The system is designed made-to-measure and offers
equal or extended leg perimeter sections to
suit all applications. A large range of quality ironmongery can
be fitted and the system includes many opening window types which are
detailed
in the below table. This range is suitable for integrity fire rated
applications (contact our technical department with your enquiry for further
details). This section has been in production since the 1960's and
therefore serves as a good replacement for existing W20 windows or earlier
Universal section steel windows, and has a proven track record of durability
coupled with flexible design potential.
Specification
Windows and doors will be manufactured from the W20 range of
purpose-made hot-rolled mild steel section and generally manufactured in
accordance with procedures laid down in BS.6510:1984. All frames will
have welded corners and be flat and square and within normal
manufacturing dimensional tolerances of +/- 2mm. Intermediate glazing bars
will be hot tenon riveted.
Galvanizing
All windows and doors,
including any steel attachments, coupling members or ancillary items, will
be hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS.729:1971 (1986), with a
minimum coating weight of 460gsm.
Polyester Powder
Coating (optional)
Galvanised windows and doors will be polyester powder coated using
Syntha-Pulvin powder. The powder will be in accordance with
BS.6497:1984, to an average thickness of at least 60 microns on all
significant surfaces. Colour of polyester powder coated elements
will be : any single
standard
BS/RAL reference colour.
Weatherstripping
Ventilators will be weatherstripped with black coloured dual
contact ethylene propylene complying with BS.4255:part 1:1986, secured
into pre-formed grooves with a suitable adhesive and are
concealed when the window is shut.
Bead Glazing (single or double glazing)
All glazing will be secured via external or internal 8mm wide x 13mm
high clip-on metal channel beads with square corner clips. Beads are
hung over glazing studs which are drilled and tapped into glazing
rebates therefore leaving no visible fixings. All finished as window
frames. All glazing will be set using Butyl non-setting
metal casement glazing compound to a colour sympathetic to frame colour.
Alternatively, glazing set into rebates using setting and spacer blocks
and capped internally and externally with low modulus silicone sealant to a
colour sympathetic to frame colour. Silicone can be colour matched to
frames for an additional charge.
Putty Glazing (only available for single glazing)
All glazing will be secured to steel frames
using glazing sprigs. Glass to be solid bedded in, and back / face puttied
with non-setting glazing metal casement putty. Galvanised only frames will
be supplied with natural colour putty for site painting by others (if
required). 2 weeks should be allowed after glazing has taken place to allow
a skin to form a semi-rigid base for painting. Polyester powder coated
frames
will be glazed
with an appropriate coloured putty subject to availability (black or white
only).
Glass
All single
glass will be between 4mm and 14mm thick. All double
glazing units will be 14mm sealed double glazing units comprising an
inner and outer pane of 4mm glass. Toughened / obscured /
special / low "E" inside / outside
panes where specified.
Heat Loss
W20 range double glazed
windows an doors have a typical "u" value of 3.7 W/m2K with ordinary float
glass and typically 3.3 W/m2K using low "E" Glass. Single glazed
windows have a typical "u" value of 5.7 W/m2K.
W20 range does not comply with the revised
Part L of the Building Regulations 1st April 2002 in respect of the
Conservation of Fuel and Power (unless expensive Xenon gas filling used in
conjunction with soft coat low "E" glass inner pane) where W40 or
EB24 sections should be used
in preference.
Please note that this is only a summary of the range and that all technical
and specification details, photographs etc. can be produced upon request.
