EB14 Range

Introduction
A cost effective alternative to the slightly more expensive EB24 range and manufactured to be a double glazed replacement for existing SMW "F" series steel windows which have been manufactured since the 1920's and installed into thousands of properties throughout the world.  It is the correct choice for those upgrading existing steel windows in Conservation areas of similar where special exemptions apply to Part L - should the Local Authority Building Control department accept.  The range itself is a high performance replacement window range for domestic steel windows offering the same aesthetic elegance but vastly increased performance. The range is suitable for replacing existing
domestic steel windows, new build domestic applications such as extensions and light commercial projects where cost is a consideration.  Available in a vast standard size range (for lowest pricing) or purpose made sizes.  Available in double glazed format (14mm units).  A large range of quality modern or traditional ironmongery can be fitted and the system includes many opening window types which are detailed in the below table.  This range is not suitable for fire rated applications at present due to the aluminium beads used (contact our technical department if fire rated windows are required).

Specification
Windows and doors will be manufactured from the EB14 range of purpose-made hot-rolled mild steel section and generally manufactured in accordance with procedures laid down in BS.6510:1984. All frames will have welded corners and be flat and square and within normal manufacturing dimensional tolerances of +/- 2mm. Intermediate glazing bars will be hot tenon riveted.

Galvanizing
All windows and doors, including any steel attachments, coupling members or ancillary items, will be hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS.729:1971 (1986), with a minimum coating weight of 460gsm.

Polyester Powder Coating (optional) Galvanised windows and doors can be polyester powder coated using Syntha-Pulvin powder. The powder will be in accordance with BS.6497:1984, to an average thickness of at least 60 microns on all significant surfaces.  Colour of polyester powder coated elements can be any single standard RAL reference colour.

Weatherstripping  Ventilators will be weatherstripped with Black coloured polymer rubber gaskets within  profile and secured with suitable adhesive.

Bead Glazing
Glazing secured via external profiled extruded aluminium beads which locate into frame carrier sections.  Glazed using setting blocks and capped internally and externally with low modulus silicone sealant to a colour sympathetic to frame colour.  Alternatively,    Silicone can be colour matched to frames for an additional charge.  All beads finished as window frames (except mill finished aluminium with galvanised finished steel frames).

Glass
All glass will be hermetically sealed double glazing units of 14mm thickness.  Units generally comprise inner and/or outer pane of 4mm.  An almost limitless combination of toughened / obscured / special / hard coat low "E" / soft coat low "E"  inside / outside panes can be utilised.

Heat Loss
EB14 range double glazed windows and doors have a typical "u" value of around 3.3 W/m2K with hard coat  low "E" coated air filled double glazing units.  The "u" value can be further decreased to 2.1 W/m2K using soft coated low "E" Xenon gas filled double glazing units (although we would suggest, due to price that the EB24 Argon gas filled alternative be the better option if surround detail allows for the larger front-to-back dimension).  The EB14 range therefore can meet the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations 1st April 2002 in respect of the Conservation of Fuel and Power
.

Please note that this is only a summary of the range and that all technical and specification details, photographs etc. can be produced upon request.

Where enhanced safety, security, thermal or weather performance is required - tighter limitations are required.  2 locking points (in lieu of 1) are required to opening lights over 1200mm wide and/or 1500mm high.  Our office would be pleased to advise on windows outside of stated limits.  Test pressure class and exposure category are of typical types and sizes when tested to BS 5368 and classified as BS 6375:Part1.
